Daniel Raisl Tribute

Daniel D. Raisl

December 13, 1942 – April 9, 2018

Daniel D. Raisl of Albany passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9, at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House surrounded by loved ones. He was 75 years old.

Dan was born in Glendive, Montana, to Albert and Emma (Holik) Raisl. He grew up in Richey, MT and graduated from Richey High School in 1960. He attended the University of Montana and studied geology for a year before enrolling in heavy equipment operation vocational training in Beaumont, CA.  Upon earning his certification, he enlisted in the Navy in 1962. Dan served as a Sea Bee for two years and was stationed overseas in Guam and the Philippines, where he met and married Antolina “Leny” Bangcot.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1964, he and Leny lived in Southern California and Iowa before settling in Oregon.  They moved to Albany in 1968 when he started working for Nebergall Meat Company as a meat cutter. He worked at Nebergall’s until 1973 when he was hired on at Wah Chang. He worked for Wah Chang for 29 years as a steelworker before retiring in 2002.

Dan was an active member of the United Steelworkers Union and had previously belonged to the American Legion. He was an avid rockhound who also enjoyed sightseeing, fishing, crabbing, going for walks, tinkering in his yard, word puzzles, watching ballgames (especially the Cleveland Indians and the Denver Broncos), and spending time with family. He and Leny had three girls together before divorcing in 1981. The two never remarried and remained good friends.

He is survived by daughters Theresa (Tony) Niskanen of Bellingham, WA, Angela (Cory) Fisher and Melissa (Craig) Chambers of Albany; ex-wife Leny Raisl of Albany; brother Richard Raisl of Laurel, MT; sister Darlene Freese of Belgrade, MT; and two grandchildren, Maryn and Mason Chambers. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, April 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Aasum-Dufour Funeral Home in Albany.  All who knew Dan are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances be made at www.aasum-dufour.com.
