Michael J. Briggs
Aug. 5, 1954 - Oct. 23, 2016

Mike passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Mike was born in Albany to Betty Nix and Charles Briggs. His parents divorced and Mike valued the role that each of his stepparents played in his life. He graduated from West Albany High School in 1973. Mike lived all his life in Albany except for two years when he moved to Bend, Oregon to attend Community College, although he probably spent more time skiing than he did in classes.

Mike's true passion and interest was in history and antiques. He loved discovering things that were old and the history that went with them. He owned and operated Albany's First Stop Antiques for many years.

Mike married his wife, Pam, on April 27, 1996. They celebrated their 20th anniversary this year.

Mike loved meeting people and made friends wherever he went.  He was very social and loved talking to people, whether he knew them or not. He was a true Oregon Duck fan and followed all their sports, especially football and basketball. He was born and raised in Albany and cared deeply about his community. He was a member for several years of the Albany Regional Museum and displayed some of his collections there.  He was also a member of the Albany Community Policing Advisory Board. He enjoyed trips to the beach, camping, kayaking and working in the yard.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Charles H. Briggs; stepfather Jack Nix; and brother Charlie Nix.

Mike is survived by his wife, Pam Briggs; mother Betty Nix; stepmother Jane Briggs Vogel; sister Dorinda Wilmot; brothers Eric (and Kristie) and Zachary (and Nikki) Briggs; stepbrothers Brian and Terry (and Brenda) Collins; uncle Chris (and Gayle) Briggs; aunt Barbara (and Jack) Cotterman; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A celebration-of-life service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Waverly Cemetery.
