Douglas Daily, avid golfer, singer and lover of life died Sunday, August 31st at the age of 83. He was born in Wagner, South Dakota to Leon and Laura Daily. His family moved to Oregon in the 40's. He was the youngest boy in his family. He had older brothers Duane, Donald, and Milton. Two younger sisters, Jackie and Sheri finished out the Daily household. Doug had a Czech cultural heritage and his Mom cooked dishes and faire favored by all. All of the brothers enjoyed playing music and singing.
Doug married Joan Ruth Stewart in 1950. He was employed at Crown Zellerbach a few years prior to joining the Air Force. He started his armed service in Victorville California at George Air Force Base. He was deployed to France, and a highlight during his time away from home was playing Soccer on the Air Force competition team.
After his time in the armed services he returned to Lebanon to his wife and a one year old daughter. He snagged a job at the U.S. Weldwood Plywood Corporation, where he worked many years and enjoyed buddies he had opportunity to work alongside.
His hobbies consumed most of his time outside of work. He bowled on several league teams, he enjoyed the turn of a season and the opportunity to hunt game, and fish. He began a long term love for golf. Pineway Golf Course was his major weekly destination. In his mid-life, he branched out to drama, acting and singing in Community Theater. His favorite, and one of the first roles, was King Henry the Eighth in "Anne of A Thousand Days".
He moved to Portland and learned the Printing Trade. He eventually owned his own printing business, Destee Printing. He later moved back to the Albany area and continued that vocation as printer at Albany First Assembly of God Church.
He married Ina Jeanne Campbell in the mid 1980's. Ina and Doug shared a love for golf, music, anything Disney, music, and Grandchildren. Doug was employed for a time at the Oregon Golf Club. Ina passed away in 2009. Doug battled a year with a debilitating condition by the name of Guillain-Barre' Syndrome, and stunned all by shooting a hole in one on the Golf Course in a short time after his return to the golf scene.
In recent years, Doug spent many evenings singing Karaoke, playing Keno, and spent many an hour watching the Golf Channel. He served as manager at his resident apartment complex up to his death.
Doug is survived by sisters Jackie Daily and Sheri Daily Gaskey. His children are Elan and Russ Langridge of Canby, Blain Daily of Albany, Phyllis and Chuck Lehman of Eugene, and Thom Campbell of Albany. Doug was blessed with Grandchildren; Brian Frasure, Brittany and Josh Lehman, Holly and Taylor Campbell, Brooke Maher, and Haley Tuttle. There were 5 Great Grandchildren, the most recent cutie Ms. Maci brought a sparkle to his eye.
There will be a casual celebration of his life at the Pizza King in Albany, "by jove". It will be held at 3 pm, on Sunday, September 21st.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Albany Firefighters Assistance Fund (AFFCAF) Donations can be made payable to AFFCAF and mailed to P.O. Box 1864, Albany, OR 97321.
