Morley Stanton Moran
November 26, 1933 - November 19, 2015

Morley S. Moran 81 of Albany passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015, one week short of his 82nd birthday, at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.

Morley was born in Los Angeles, Calif, to Irving and Creta (Nichols) Moran. He graduated from University High School in Los Angeles in 1952 and Pierce School of Agriculture in 1954. Following graduation from Pierce, he moved to the Lacomb area where his family had relocated. Morley worked at Griggs Western Veneer Plywood Mill before being drafted into the army in 1957. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army during the "Cold War Era" as a radio mechanic. Those skills would later lead him to become a radio and television technician at Hoy's Hardware in Lebanon. While stationed in Germany, he traveled to the Scandinavian Countries, Holland, England and other areas in Europe.

He married Lois E. Roberts on October 12, 1961, in Lebanon. Their first home was in the Scio area.

In 1963, Morley enrolled at Oregon State University, majoring in Geography, and graduated with a Master of Science Degree in 1967. Following graduation he accepted a one-year National Teaching Fellowship position in geography at Eastern Oregon College in LaGrande. He and his young family then moved to Tigard and he taught Geography at Portland Community College for the next 25 years. In 1975 the family moved to the Lacomb area where they had cleared land and their new home was being built by Morley's brother Milton. They enjoyed that beautiful setting with access to Crabtree Creek for the next 30 years. Morley and Lois moved to Albany in 2005.

Morley was a talented photographer and captured many stunning photos during his years of hiking backpacking, and traveling. He had a deep appreciation of our national parks, wilderness areas and the Oregon Coast. He was always there with his camera as he attended his grandchildren's activities whether it was football, baseball, softball, track, soccer or 4H animal events.

Morley is survived by his wife Lois of Albany; daughter Susan and husband Keith Kaminski of Toledo, Oregon; son Scott and wife Robin of Portland; sister Beverly Tedrow of Tangent; grandchildren Hailey (Kyle) Sanderson, Drew (Candace) Kaminski, Tyson Kaminski, Emily and Aidan Moran; great granddaughters Natalie and Macy Sanderson and Maya Kaminski. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Milton Moran.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2 at Albany First United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation for the Dr. Frank Girod Medical Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home. AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handing the arrangements (www.aasum-dufour.com).
