Victor Bauer passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at Stoneybrook Assisted Living in Corvallis.
Victor was born on Nov. 21, 1926, in Otter Creek, North Dakota, to Henry and Anna Bauer of Bluegrass, North Dakota, and was raised on a farm with his seven siblings, Delores, Erhart, Donald, Calvin, Harold, Verna and Ervin. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Otter Creek, North Dakota.
Victor graduated from New Salem (North Dakota) High School in 1945 and attended Bismarck Junior College and Dickinson Teacher's College.
In 1954, Victor moved to Oregon. He worked as an accountant for the next 28 years at Albany Frozen Foods, then for an additional 15 years for Cummings Transfer in Albany and Salem.
In November of 1982, Victor married Loelleta (Lee) Bauer and moved to Sweet Home. Through Lee, Victor joined a family that includes stepsons Timothy (wife Mary) and David (wife Barbara). He became a wonderful grandfather to Tim's kids, Jason and Kaitlin, and to David's kids, Genevieve and Philip; then great-grandfather to Jason's son, Andrew.
In 1992, Vic and Lee moved to Lebanon and enjoyed years of retirement, traveling various places including Germany and Jamaica, but most often visiting family in North Dakota.
Vic and Lee moved to Corvallis in 2012 when their health slowed them considerably, becoming tenants in Stoneybrook Independent Living, then Stoneybrook Assisted Living.
Lee died in April of 2014, and Victor continued living at Stoneybrook Assisted Living until his passing.
Vic was a devout lifetime member of the Lutheran Church, participating in numerous church organizations often serving as financial secretary or treasurer (the accountant in him). His was a member of numerous congregations along the way, most recently with Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lebanon. He also enjoyed collecting coins, fishing, golf, attending Oregon State Beaver basketball games, and of course, being a grandpa.
Donations may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Lebanon or Benton Hospice Service, in his memory.
Victor is survived by brothers Harold (Shirley), Calvin, and Erhart (Anita); sister Delores (Wilbert) Kunz; sister-in-law Laura Opp; stepson David Bauer and wife Barbara Sneath, and grandchildren Genevieve and Philip (Portage, Michigan); stepson Timothy Bauer and wife Mary Bauer, grandchildren Jason and Kaitlin, and great-grandson Andrew (Corvallis).
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 434 E. Grant St., Lebanon.
