Karen Anne Kroeger Tribute

Karen Anne Kroeger passed away on April 22, 2024, following a short illness.

The fourth of six children, Karen was born on November 24, 1961, in Geneseo, Illinois to Lloyd and Margaret (Ghesquiere) Kroeger. While still a young child, she moved with her family to a small farm in Scio, Oregon, where she began a lifelong appreciation for the natural beauty of her adopted home state which she regularly declared was the prettiest. When she was 9 years old, the family moved again to Tangent, Oregon, where Karen completed her education. Following her graduation from West Albany High School, Karen moved from the family home 6 miles north to Albany, Oregon, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Karen began working in the legal field shortly after graduating from West Albany High School in 1980. For the majority of her career, she worked for Roger Reid in Albany, and later for Felling & Reid as a legal assistant. She had a passion for the law and loved researching cases for criminal defense, as well as assisting with probate and guardianship cases. She enjoyed working with the public and took great satisfaction in helping others with legal issues. She served as treasurer of the Linn County Drug Treatment Court for many years.

Karen had an adventurous spirit and was always very independent (some might even say a bit stubborn). Although she loved living on her own, she was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with them whenever she could. A lifelong Catholic, she was also steadfast in her faith, which was a great comfort to her.

Karen enjoyed traveling both near and far. Those who traveled with her can attest to her thirst for seeing new things and her reluctance to miss any local attractions along her route. Highlights of her European travels included trips to Vatican City and a visit to her maternal grandparents’ home in Belgium. Closer to home, she loved spending time in Central Oregon at Camp Sherman, going to the Oregon Coast, and especially being with her beloved dogs Zoee and Chloe.

Karen is survived by her sister Jean (Tim) Coddington, brother Dan (RaNee) Kroeger, sister Cyndi (Dan) Haider, sister Debi (Mel) Wikel, brother Loren (Emil) Kroeger, niece Jessalyn Satterlund and nephew Zeb Kroeger. She was preceded in death by her parents.
