Bessie Mobley Tribute

Bessie Mae Mobley

June 11, 1928 — January 29, 2018

Bessie Mae Mobley, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on January 29, 2018. She entered into the presence of God with her family by her side.

Bessie was a bright ray of sunshine who impacted the lives of all who knew her.

She was born in West Monroe, Louisiana on June 11, 1928 to Luther and Minnie Pearl Roberts and was one of nine siblings. Her family moved to Marianna, Arkansas during her early childhood years where she remained until her early adult years.

In 1954, she made her way out to Oregon where she married John Marshall Mobley in 1956. Marshall and Bessie were blessed with four children and Bessie sacrificially and lovingly stayed at home to raise them.

Bessie was a member of First Baptist Church of Eugene for over 50 years.

In 1983, Bessie became the Alpha Omega house’s cook and resident mom on the University of Oregon campus. She absolutely loved her job because she gained many sons over the 17 years she worked there.

In 2004, Bessie moved up to Albany to live near her daughter and grandchildren. She became a member of Riverside Baptist Church in North Albany eight years ago. Bessie loved her brothers and sisters in Christ and delighted in actively serving in various ministries. She was dearly loved and cherished by her church family.

Bessie was a lover of gardening and always had the most beautiful flowers surrounding her house. She was infamous for baking her pumpkin nut breads and chocolate cookie sheet cakes.

She was a lover of people but most importantly, she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and spent her lifetime living devotedly for Him. In her final days, Bessie wanted to encourage people to:

“Live joyously,

Love generously,

Laugh abundantly and

Be happy in the Lord always.”

Bessie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Ann Mobley of Birmingham, Alabama, daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Gary Newman of Eugene, daughter and son-in-law, Danita and Quinton Hamel of Albany, son-in-law Russ Hass of Eugene; Brianna and her husband, Andrew Lambright, a granddaughter whom she raised and loved as a daughter. Bessie is also survived by seven additional grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by, her daughter, Rhonda Hass.

Bessie’s celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 3 at Riverside Baptist Church in Albany.
