Daniel T. Carr
December 26, 1939 - April 26th, 2019
Daniel Thomas Carr passed away on Friday, April 26th, 2019 at Evergreen Hospice House in Albany, OR. He was surrounded by loved ones, given kisses, and his hands were held until he took his last breath. Dan was never alone, and we brought up happy memories. He was told he was loved and appreciated repeatedly in the last hours. He left us how he expressed how he wanted to go: “To kind of fade away”.
Dan was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Jennie and Daniel Carr, Sr. He grew up in Mt. Washington. He attended school at South Hills.
Dan and Helen met as teenagers in Pittsburgh, fell in love, got married, and off they went on their adventure together.
Dan and Helen moved to Albany, OR about 2002.
During his working life, Dan was a pressman at a company called Kleerpak, then on to work as a supervisor at Deluxe packaging. He worked on impressively immense machines, and he worked hard. I still have not met someone who worked harder.
Dan enjoyed music. His passion. If you had a minute, he could fill it with origins of songs you never even knew were covers, who sung it first, and how they got past the censors on the radio. Dan was a walking encyclopedia. He sang in a Doo Wop group called the Del Pris, and not only had an album but was also on a “Pittsburgh Greatest Hits” compilation. He was a quiet, yet extremely intelligent man. When he had something to say, it was important. Mostly that was curfew!
Dan is preceded in death by Jennie and Daniel Carr, Sr. He is survived by wife Helen Carr, children Joyce Fischer, Judith Schuhlein, Daniel Carr, Jr., Jennifer Nowell, Rebecca Carr and Sherry Carr, his brother John Carr, and sister Barbara Power.
AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling the arrangements (www.aasum-dufour.com).
