David Scott Mortlock

April 29, 1949 — August 28, 2017

Scott, or Mr. Mortlock as known to many, died August 28, 2017 after a short battle with an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer.

He enriched the lives of so many individuals. First, his family whom he loved dearly, his wife Diana; daughters, Amanda, Jessica and Julia; sons-in-law Brian, Dusty and Kelly; and grandchildren Annabelle, Elsa, Avery and Easton. Together, we made a great team and thoroughly enjoyed each other's company while playing games, sharing meals, delighting in the grandkids and taking vacations together. We have a treasure trove of wonderful family memories.

Additionally, he impacted thousands of lives during his 35 years as a science teacher (primarily at Philomath Middle School) from former students to colleagues and friends. This community honored and memorialized him beautifully with hundreds of letters and notes that touched him deeply in his last few weeks and gave voice to who he was — https://m.facebookcom/groups/332641463824883.

A celebration of his life will take place at a later date which will be announced on the Facebook page above and at www.caringbridge.org/visit/scottmortlock.

True to form, Scott wanted to help others and embrace science. To that end, donations in his memory can be made to directly support the work of one of the best and kindest pancreatic cancer researchers who helped Scott greatly in his journey with this terrible cancer. http://getinvolved.fhcrc.org/goto/ScottMortlock or Fred Hutch, Mail Stop J5-200, 1100 Fairview Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109
