Ernie passed away at his home in Philomath, OR
Ernie was born in Underwood, ND to Otto & Esther Giedd
His early childhood was spent in N. Dakota then the family moved out to Oregon settling in a few cities before putting roots down in Albany, OR.
Ernie attended schools in the Albany school district through to his graduation in 1954. He attended Lee College in Cleveland, TN for a year then enlisted in the Army September 1958 and honorably discharged February 1966 with the grade of E6 - Staff Sargent.
Some of his college time was spent at the Bureau of Mines & from there he went to the University of Colorado majoring in chemistry where he received his Bachelor of Arts diploma in 1968.
He was predeceased by his parents, daughter Alison Kaye, and sister Marian Siddall.
After losing his only child to leukemia in 1969 he returned to Albany, OR and eventually worked for OreMet as a chemist.
In 1983, Ernie met his wife of almost 35 years. Ernie & Elizabeth were married September 1984 at Chapel in the Pines, Camp Sherman, OR.
From their first adventure, Ernie & Elizabeth enjoyed hiking, fishing, & camping together. For his hobbies, Ernie was an avid photographer, carpenter, and all-around handyman.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, step-sons Richard L. Unser, Christopher D. Unser, & Jason N. Unser. He is also survived by sister Theone Goldman, husband Ned; nephews Phil (Laurie), Jon (Coleen), & Aaron (Jody) Goldman. Included is his niece Lisa (Doug) Taylor. Also survived by his youngest sister, Karen Samuels; nephews Tim & Jon Samuels.
