Eugene Carl Glender, 94 of Albany, passed away on August 20th, 2017 at Quail Run in the Mennonite Village.
He was born on the 20th of February in 1923 to Charles and Selma Glender in Corvallis, OR. He grew up in Corvallis on the family ranch along with his two sisters, Elvera and Leone. Gene attended local schools and graduated from Corvallis High School.
During World War II, Gene served in the Oregon Guard. After a short stay in California working odd jobs, Gene moved to Albany where he worked at Western Door Plywood Mill until it burned down. He then went to Stone Forest Plywood where he worked until he retired in 1989.
Gene was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He loved to fish, hunt and golf. He also liked to hunt for rocks that he would cut and polish and make into gem jewelry, and then give to loved ones. He raised huge gardens to share with his many friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elvera.
Gene is survived by Viola, his wife of 68 years and their 6 children: Dennis and Julie Glender, Sandy and Chris Barron, Chuck and Linda Glender, David and Winnie Glender, Carla and Jerry Davis, and Mark Glender; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 29th at 10:00 AM. There will be no graveside service.
