Irene Lucille Marges

June 29, 1920 — October 17, 2017

Irene (Bouvia) Marges, 97, died peacefully surrounded by family at the Mennonite Village in Albany.

Irene was born in Salix, Iowa, daughter of Fred and Edna Bouvia.

She married Edward John Marges in Los Angeles, California in 1941 and moved to Albany a year later.

Irene was a baker at the historic Mary Anne Bakery where her cakes and desserts were legendary. Irene's cakes graced the weddings and birthdays of many of her children and grandchildren and her pies were the stand outs at family gatherings.

Irene was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Irene was preceded in death by Edward, her husband of 61 years; sisters, Helen Griensewic and Jean Aerni; and brothers, Herb and Fritz Bouvia.

She is survived by her sister, Shirley Sailing of Albany; and son Ed (Dawn) and daughter Cheryl Henderson (Jim) both of Salem. Seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren carry on in life with loving memories.

A private family internment will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland and arrangements are being coordinated by AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home (www.aasum-dufour.com).

The family wishes to thank everyone for their sincere condolences in our time of sorrow. We will all cherish the love, kind heart, and sweet smile of our beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
