Aden Schlabach passed away on Sept 28, 2026, at the age of 97.
Aden was born August 13, 1929 to Andrew and Barbara Schlabach in Holmes County, Ohio. Aden was the fourth of five children and the last surviving sibling. Aden grew up an Amish boy plowing and harrowing fields behind a team of horses. In the early 1950’s, in his young 20’s, he left Ohio and came to Harrisburg, Oregon. He worked on farms and met his future wife, Rachel Kropf. They married in July of 1953 and had sons, Dennis, Eugene, and daughter Sandra.
Aden worked at Thompson Flouring Mills, driving a feed truck, delivering feed to small country stores from the valley to the coast. In the spring of 1959, the family moved to Ohio for 15 months, during his mother’s illness. After moving back to Harrisburg, Oregon, he went to Barber School in Eugene, working at Sacred Heart Hospital during his schooling. He began barbering in Philomath Oregon in 1960, cutting hair for 35 years until his retirement in 1995.
In 1966 Aden and Rachel built a new home on Peoria Road in the Oakville area. They planted a wide variety of beautiful flowers, including many variations of rhododendrons and azaleas. In the late 1990’s they moved to Dallas, Oregon where they lived until their death.
In retirement Aden restored 7 tractors. He also had a lifelong interest in airplanes and flying. Aden loved gardening and still kept a well-manicured flower garden to the age of 94.
Aden was very much interested in geography and traveled to many places. His travels took him to Alaska, and to Vanderhoof, McBride, Anaheim Lake and Bella Coola in British Columbia, Banff and Jasper parks in Alberta, to Glacier Park in Montana a number times to hike with his brother Emanuel, to Yosemite Park and the Redwoods in California. Also, all over Oregon, from Saddle Mountain near Astoria, to the Steens, Wallowa Lake, Crater Lake, and lots of points in between.
Aden was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Rachel; his parents: Andrew and Barbara Schlabach; brothers: Emanuel and Martin Schlabach, sisters: Mary Yoder and Sarah Beachy. He is survived by his sons: Dennis (Mim) Schlabach, Eugene (Lauri) Schlabach, daughter Sandra (Ron) Quiring; four grandchildren: Andrew (Amy) Schlabach, Kyle (Christel) Schlabach, Becki (Allen) Zwemke, Suzanne (Jonathon) Flamm.
