Obituary

Alan "Al" H. Hinshaw of Scio passed away at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital on Saturday, April 28th. Al was born in Springfield, Oregon to Howard and Idella "Ikie" Hinshaw on February 24, 1959 and graduated from Thurston High School in 1977. After high school, he joined the United States Navy where he served for four years from 1977 to 1981, after which he served as a Reserve member for another five years from 1981 to 1986. He married Phyllis Eisel of Springfield on December 31, 1982. Al worked for the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Spending time outdoors was one of Al's favorite pastimes, never missing a single hunting season and actively participating in the Northwest Quad Riders Club, but what Al loved most of all was spending time with his family and entertaining friends. He was adamant about being a good host and was an incredibly caring person who concerned himself with others' safety and enjoyment. Al was a determined, hard-working perfectionist with a great sense of humor who was willing to help anyone and everyone. He will be missed tremendously.

Al is survived by his father, Howard Hinshaw of Lebanon, his wife, Phyllis Hinshaw of Scio, his daughters, Katherine Wills of Albany and Sandra Gillis of Keizer, his brothers Steve Hinshaw of Bend and Harry Hinshaw of Spokane, his two sons-in-law, and three beautiful grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Idella "Ikie" Hinshaw of Lebanon.

A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at 36435 Gilkey Rd., Scio, OR 97374.
