Albert H. MaierAug. 5, 1917 - May 28, 2010Albert H. Maier, 92, went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday. He died at his home in Troutdale, surrounded by his family.Al, the son of Peter and Pauline (Stuber) Maier, was born in Corvallis on Aug. 5, 1917. The family moved to Albany when he was 5, where they became members at Immanuel Lutheran Church.On April 27, 1940, Al married Lucille Eastman in Eugene at Grace Lutheran Church with his uncle, the Rev. Wm. Maier, officiating. Prior to their marriage, they purchased part of the old Cooper homestead from Lucille's parents and began building a home on North Albany Road. They raised three children, Janice, Jim and Sheryl. In 2005 they reluctantly left their home to move to Troutdale to be near Janice and Sheryl. They transferred membership to Ascension Lutheran Church in Portland.Al began working for Mountain States Power in 1945. Pacific Power & Light purchased the company and Al retired from PP&L after 38 years of service.He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jim, brothers Carl and John, and sisters Esther and Elsie.Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lucille; brother Jim Maier and wife Patti of Joseph; brother-in-law Loren Kreger of Scio; daughter and son-in-law Janice and Larry Hart, daughter Sheryl Maier, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters, all of Troutdale; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Palestine Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1440 S.E. 182nd Ave., Portland, with a luncheon to follow. Memorials may be given to Ascension Lutheran Church or Immanuel Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
