Alice Jeanette SparksMarch 12, 1921 - February 21, 2009Alice J. Sparks, 87, of Albany passed away Saturday, February 21, at a local care facility.She was born March 12, 1921, in Bagley, Minn., the daughter of Oliver and Tillie (Haug) Gullingsrud. While a young child, her family moved to Park River, N.D., where Alice received her education. She taught piano and guitar in Grafton, N.D., at Anderson's Music Store and sang in the Lutheran Church choir. Alice moved to Salem, OR. in 1968 and continued to teach piano and guitar as well as working as a practical Nurse with the elderly. In 1971, after moving to Albany, she atended Immanuel Lutheran Church and later was a member of the Albany First Assembly of God Church. She was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary in North Dakota, and was the past chaplain and secretary for the Washington County Homemakers Chorus.She was preceded in death by brothers Orville and Melvin Gullingsrud and sisters Julette Gullingsrud and Opal Mullin. She is survived by brother Jerome Gullingsrud of Chico, Calif.; sister Joanne Billadean of Seattle; and numerous nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home, with Pastor Terry Merrill officiating. Entombment will follow at Willamette Memorial Park Mausoleum in Albany.
