Alice Kropp Westbrook, 98, passed away Saturday at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.
She was born in Brooten, Minn. Her parents, Graham and Maybelle (McDaniel) Silk, moved to Oregon when she was 11 months old. Alice has lived in Albany since 1918. She attended Madison School and graduated from Albany High School in 1933.
Alice worked for Woolworth's and Stemberg's Ladies Store after graduation. She married Monte Kropp in 1937. They had two children, Richard and Jo Ellen.
After being a homemaker while her children grew up, she went to work at Van Dahl Publications for 24 years as a proof reader and editor's assistant before retiring at 62 years of age.
Alice was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, several bridge clubs and Albany's Duplicate Bridge Club. She volunteered at the Albany General Hospital for 24 years.
Her husband, Monte Kropp, died in 1981. Alice married Curtis Westbrook in 1984. He passed away in 1995.
Alice was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Glendinning in 2008; and son Richard "Dick" Kropp in April 2013.
She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ellen and son-in-law Wayne Hromas of Albany; daughter-in-law Helen Kropp of Newport; cousin Delores (McDaniel) Wilson of Eugene; six grandchildren, Leslie Cheney, Laurie Geissler, Brenda Lindsay, Graem Hromas, Grant Hromas and Gina Jantzi; five step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; caregiver Belinda Bowman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alice's funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany. Private entombment will be at Willamette Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Albany Senior Center or Albany Boys and Girls Club.
