Allen (Al) Lochner died on the morning of July 24, 2026. He had fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and died peacefully at Evergreen Hospice house in Albany, Oregon. He was born on June 7, 1944 in Battle Creek, Iowa to parents Glenn and Cathrine Lochner. He joined his older sister, Gwen, and later his brother, Verne, and his sister Nicki completed the family. His parents and his siblings Gwen and Verne preceded Al in death.

His family moved to Oregon from Iowa for the second time in 1951. They bought a farm near Sheridan where Al helped with the necessary chores.

He attended schools in Sheridan Oregon, graduating in 1962. An outstanding athlete who participated in football, basketball, and track, Al received a scholarship to Linfield to play basketball. He played city league sports until he retired. 

He married his high school sweetheart Nancy Kaufman in 1963. They had two sons Thomas, (deceased in 2013), and James, who lives in Marietta Georgia with his partner Spencer Hayes.

In his later years, Cecilia Mihaylo, Darian and Ruth Hyde, joined his family as Godchildren. He felt very loved by these families, as they gave him the grandchildren, Chelsea (Matt), Sky (Fran), Alex, Sofia, Kylie, and great granddaughter, Echo. He was also loved by his sister-in-law Maxine Morelock, and many nieces and nephews.

For 38 years, Al worked as a residential electrician primarily in Albany and the surrounding area. After retiring, he continued serving his community by volunteering his electrical expertise with Habitat for Humanity for 10 years.

Allen was late to rest at Greencrest cemetery in Sheridan Oregon on July 28, 2026. A celebration of life will be held in November at the United Presbyterian Church in Albany, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Habitat for Humanity or United Presbyterian Church in Allen’s memory.
