Alma E. Hobbs Russell, 87, passed away Wednesday at her home.
Alma was born to James and Cora Scofield in Joes, Colo., the youngest of seven children. When the boys were grown, James and Cora moved Alma and her sister to Oregon. She graduated from Albany High School in 1943.
During a visit back to Colorado, Alma was swept off her feet by Athol Harold "Ace" Hobbs. They were married July 7, 1945, in St Francis, Kan., and lived in Albany, where they raised three children. Alma relished her role as a homemaker and enjoyed golf and bowling. She developed lifelong friendships within her ladies groups, "Friends O'Mine" and "Bridge Club." Ace died in December of 1969.
On July 16, 1971, Alma married her high school sweetheart, Roger R Russell. He passed on Dec. 31, 2008.
Alma's brothers preceded her in death, and she is survived by her sister, Dorothy Williamson, of Albany.
Also surviving are children Steven and Shelley Hobbs, and Tim and Annette Hobbs, all of Albany, and Jamie and Arnie Kampfer of Harrisburg. She was blessed with seven grandchildren and their families: Jesse and Marie Kampfer and Kori and Jeff Helget of Brownsville; Kimberley and Scott Buzzard of Silverton; Stephanie and Bill Frey, Holly and Daniel Ryan, and Nelly and Dana Harrington of Albany; and Adam Hobbs and Sarah Carter of Portland. She delighted in keeping up with their activities and adventures, especially the 13 beloved great-grandchildren who provided light in her life.
A celebration of Alma's life with family and friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at The Villas of Albany, 1560 Davidson St. S.E., in Albany.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to Fish of Albany, Inc., 1880 Hill St. S.E., Albany, OR 97322, with whom Alma volunteered as a receptionist.
