Alvin Duane Ferguson Sr.October 24, 1927 - January 12, 2010Alvin Duane Ferguson Sr., 82, of Albany passed away Tuesday morning at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.Alvin was born in Lynch, Neb., to Lee and Francis (Sedivy) Ferguson.  The family moved to Golden Valley area near Lebanon. Later they moved to the Hamiliton Creek area on Berlin Road.He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and obtained the rank of Seaman First Class.He met Evelyn Maxine Gates from Waterloo, at a dance at the Crabtree Community Hall, they soon became dancing partners.  They were married on Oct. 29, 1947.  Alvin and Maxine raised 5 boys.  They spent most of there married lives in the Lebanon and Albany areas. Alvin worked for several of the local mills in the area before settling on a career with the Oregon State Highway Department.  He ended his 27-year career as a maintenance foreman in Corvallis, Oregon on June 30, 1989.He and Maxine liked to travel and made several trips to Branson, but there favorite thing was to go camping with his family.  Hunting every year in Central Oregon and fishing at Diamond Lake was always a special time.  Alvin was very skilled in leather craft and wood working.  He enjoyed listening to country music and dancing Saturday nights at the American Legion Hall in Lebanon. He is preceded in death by Evelyn Maxine; grandson Robert S Ferguson; and brother Elmer Ferguson.Alvin is survived by his five sons,  Alvin D Ferguson Jr. of Lapine, Glen L Ferguson of Lapine, Larry D Ferguson of Aumsville, David C Ferguson of Albany, Stanley D Ferguson of Albany; sister Lorraine (Ferguson) Blanshan of Lebanon; grandchildren Jason, Gerald, Steven, Shannan, Teresa, Amy, Jeremy; and nine great-grandchildren.A viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home with graveside and military honor guard to follow at the Lebanon IOOF cemetery. AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling the arrangements ( www.aasum-dufour.com ).
