Ann M. Propst, 86 of Albany passed away Dec. 27 at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House.
Annie Marie Vidal was born in Klamath Falls Oregon to Chastine and Galiano Vidal. She grew up in Klamath Falls and graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1946.
Ann went to work for the telephone company as an operator in 1946 where she met Eldon Propst. They were married in 1948. Together they had three children, Vickie, Steven and Kimberly. They later divorced in 1966.
Ann continued her career with Pacific Northwest Bell for many years starting in Klamath Falls and later Eugene, Albany and Salem. She retired from the Albany office in 1987.
She was a member of the Riverside Garden Club, Albany Eagles and the Pioneer Club for Telephone Co. Employees.
She loved gardening, traveling, reading, camping with her family and visiting Kauai with her daughters and friends. She loved the annual trips to Tucson to stay with long-time friends.
Our mother was an avid reader always imparting her ever increasing knowledge in the form of emails and telling us what was good or bad for us. We always responded with "mom, you can't believe everything you read on the internet."
She was very proud of her Italian heritage and taught her children to be as well. She remembered her mother making soup every single day and special occasions were always celebrated with favorite recipes of gnocchi, bagna cauda and ravioli.
If she had one bit of advice to impart as a reformed smoker, it would be to please NEVER smoke. She was the first to tell total strangers that they won't escape COPD and emphysema if they keep it up. She didn't want to see any others suffer the consequences.
Ann is survived by daughter Vickie and husband Robert Green; son Steven and wife Marlene; daughter Kim and husband Jerry York; grandchildren Kacie and husband Kevin Nelson, Kyler York and Wife Talisha, Jerad York and wife Kaylee, and Shayne Propst; great-grandchildren Layden and Kylinn York; and her special cat named "Max."
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Villas of Courtyard on Grand Prairie Road, Albany, where she was living.
