Arlene Fay Squibb, 76, of Albany passed away on Wednesday at Bridgecreek Memory Care.
Arlene was born in Sidney, Mont., to George and Alice (Hart) Kappel. She grew up in Circle, Mont., and enjoyed spending time with all her cousins and working on ranches. She graduated from high school in Circle and married her best friend's brother, Leland Squibb, in 1956. In 1959 they moved to Portland and then came to Albany in 1964. Arlene went to work for J.C. Penney's in 1967 as Christmas help wrapping gifts and worked her way up to personnel manager and retired in 1992 after 25 years of service. After retirement she became a chaplain working primarily with Nursing Home Ministries. Arlene was very active with the First Church of God and the Albany Community Church of God and had a prayer group with fellow J.C. Penney's employees for 30 years.
She enjoyed camping at the Oregon Coast with her husband and grandchildren, gardening - especially roses, crocheting, singing, and was a mother to who ever needed one.
Arlene is survived by daughters Irene Davidson of Tieton, Wash., and Arla Hains of Carson City, Nev.; brothers Garry Kappel of Lakeview and Jess Kappel of Gladstone; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Leland.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be held at Willamette Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.
