Obituary

Arzalea Mae Hostetler, a beacon of love and faith, departed this world on January 20, 2025, at the age of 93, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and education that touched many lives. Born on December 30, 1931, in Albany, Oregon, Arzalea was a lifelong

resident of her beloved hometown, where she also drew her last breath surrounded by the love of her family.

Arzalea's journey through life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her family, faith, and the many students she guided throughout her career. She was the cherished wife of Milton (Bud) Hostetler and was enveloped in love by her siblings Larry Kropf, Delwin Kropf, and Jean Kropf. Her memory will be treasured by her surviving sister Joyce

Gingerich and brother Veldon Kropf. Arzalea's devotion to her family was evident through the close bonds she formed with her sons, Gary L. Hostetler of Albany, OR, and Terry L. Hostetler of Salem, OR. She was a proud grandmother to Gary "Andy" Hostetler, Stacy Hostetler, William "BJ" Jayne Jr., Jarrod Jayne, Kevin Boss, and Dillon Boss, and she was a source of joy and wisdom to her seventeen great-grandchildren, who will carry her spirit forward. An alumna of Halsey High School, Arzalea's thirst for knowledge led her to the Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, Oregon, where she earned her teaching degree. Her passion for education was not just a career but a calling. She dedicated four decades of her life to teaching at Wyatt, Halsey, and Shedd grade schools. Her influence as an educator extended beyond the classroom as she inspired her students to achieve their best, instilling in them the values of hard work and integrity. Arzalea's interests were deeply rooted in her faith. She joyfully served in the Bible school and was a pivotal figure in the Goodnews Club. Her initiatives and leadership in the startup of the Willamette Valley Women's Ministry were a testament to her commitment to her community and her desire to empower others through spiritual growth and fellowship. Those who knew Arzalea would describe her as loving, faith-filled, and thoughtful. She approached life with a gentle strength and a heart full of compassion. Her actions spoke volumes of her character, as she consistently put others before herself, offering support and comfort to anyone in need. Arzalea's life was a tapestry of meaningful relationships and selfless service. Her presence was a warm embrace to those around her, and her absence will be deeply felt. However, the memories she created, the lessons she imparted, and the love she shared will continue to resonate with all who were fortunate enough to cross her path. As we bid farewell to Arzalea Mae Hostetler, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey completed with grace, and a spirit that will forever be cherished. Her legacy is one of love and faith, a light that will continue to shine in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched.
