Obituary

Barbara Faith (Brenneman) Burkey, 80, of Albany passed away Wednesday at her home.

She was born in Tofield, Alberta, Canada, to Harvey and Uarda (Hills) Brenneman. Barbara's family moved from Canada to Albany when she was in elementary school. She lived at home until she attended high school at Hesston College in Kansas.

On May 1, 1949, she married Willard Harry Burkey in the parlor of her parent's home. Barbara was a wife, mother and homemaker, but also did some secretarial and bookkeeping jobs through the years. Most recently she worked as the bookkeeper for the family farm in Pasco until retirement.

Barbara enjoyed making dolls and entering them into competitions, sewing and church activities. She also enjoyed researching family genealogy and family records, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family and staying connected in their lives.

Barbara is survived by husband Willard Burkey; children Dianna Eshleman, Lee Burkey and David Burkey; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Lois Miller; and brother Harley Brenneman.

She was preceded in death by parents Harvey and Uarda (Hills) Brenneman; brothers Earl and Roderick Brenneman; and sisters Margaret Cross and Vira Lemons.

A viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Albany Mennonite Church with a fellowship meal following. Private burial will be at Fairview Mennonite Cemetery in Albany.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee or Oregon Mennonite Historical Society.
