Berniece E. "Bernie" HansonNov. 21, 1915 - May 28, 2009Berniece E. "Bernie" Hanson was born in Albany, Or. on November 21, 1925 to Ben and Ethel Hogevoll and passed away peacefully on May 28, 2009 at the age of 93.She was the oldest of four children and was preceded in death by all her siblings.  She was raised in Nashville, Ore., and went to high school in Albany.  She married Hillard Hanson on May 29, 1938, and they had three children.  She was preceded in death by son Keith to leukemia in 1950.Bernie and Hillard owned and operated several grocery stores and service stations in the Salem area and finally founded the Country Corral western wear store in Salem which they operated from 1964  until 1974.  They bought Powder Creed Ranch in Beaver, Ore. in 1974 where Bernie loved fishing and feeding the wildlife.  Berniece and Hillard were married for 65 years and loved playing cards and games with family and friends.  They loved the outdoors and traveling.After Hillard passed in 2003 Bernie moved from Salem to Beaver to be with her family there.  Bernie had a wonderful memory and enjoyed telling stories to everyone about her life and the "old" days. She is survived by her daughter Beverly Johnson of Beaver; son Wallace Hanson of Moses Lake, Wash; grandchildren Brenda Charter of Beaver, Chris Hanson and Trisha Schwartz both of Moses Lake; 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.A viewing will be from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.  A Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Willamette Memorial Park.  AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling the arrangements ( www.aasum-dufour.com ).
