Obituary

Betty was born to Carl and Huleh Peterson in Grand Island, Nebraska. She entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior peacefully on 11/20/21, in Corvallis, OR.

After moving to Southern California in 1937, Betty attended McKinley Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High, Hoover High, and graduated with a BA degree in education from San Diego State College in 1951. (Pi Beta Phi).

Betty married David Samuel in 1952, and worked as a social worker in Southern California and later Washington state while her husband completed his military service in the Air Force.  She raised three children in San Diego, and was a 51-year breast cancer survivor, recognized by the American Cancer Society in 1977 for developing a pilot project for counseling breast cancer patients and their families.

She was a proud member of the Tri City Bible Church in Vista, CA, and considered her salvation in Christ to be her most prized possession. John 14:6 and Psalm 94:19 was two of her favorite verses. She surprised many by surviving into her 10th decade, primarily and especially herself!

Betty is survived by her three children David (Sally), Daniel (Beth) and Kate (Jacke) Spencer, seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, and BFF Joyce Blankenship of San Marcos, CA.

Interment will be at Cypress View Mausoleum.

AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling the arrangements (www.aasum-dufour.com).
