Elizabeth "Betty" Ellen Wagener
Jan. 4, 1926 - Dec. 2, 2015
Elizabeth "Betty" Ellen Wagener, 89 of Albany went peacefully to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015.
She was born to William and Laverna Halsey in Albany on Jan. 4, 1926. They moved to Mt. Vernon, Washington, in 1942 when her father re-enlisted in the Marine Corps. Betty graduated from high school in Mt. Vernon, and shortly thereafter, the family returned to Albany where she lived the remainder of her life.
Betty was united in marriage to Loren E. Wagener on Sept. 5, 1945. She gave birth to three sons; William (1948), Thomas (1952) and Steven (1958).
While raising her family, Betty worked from home as a bookkeeper and dispatcher for Loren's AA towing business which they purchased in 1956. She developed a keen interest (and skill) in ceramics and taught classes out of their home for nearly 20 years.
Betty's greatest "job," interest and accomplishment was the deep love and devotion she had for her family. She had an unmatched, unending love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and wrapped her heart around each of them. She spent every summer at the Oregon coast for over 20 years and spent a week of individual time there with each grandchild every year. It was one of the greatest joys of her life.
Betty is survived by three sons, Bill (Jeanie) of Vancouver, Washington, Tom (Evie) of Wilsonville, and Steve (Diane) of Albany; six grandchildren, Ryan Wagener, Christy (Kent) Phillips, Kalin (Cullen) Thomas, Sarah (Mike) Turner, Jeremy (Sydney) Wagener and Loren (Jeni) Wagener; and six great-grandchildren, Brayden, Danielle and Elizabeth Phillips, Leila and Cullen Thomas, and Maea Turner; and brother William (Fran) Halsey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Loren; and one sister.
A private family burial will take place on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015. Memorials may be directed to Eastside Christian Church of Albany or Quail Run Foundation of Albany.
