IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty June
(Walker) Gangle
April 28, 1930 – September 12, 2016
Betty June (Walker) Gangle
April 28, 1930 — Sept. 12, 2016
Betty passed peacefully supported by her children at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice in Albany following a battle with heart failure and pulmonary fibrosis on Monday, Sept. 12, 2016.
A native Oregonian, she was born at home to Noel and Willetta Walker near Glendale. She grew up at various remote Oregon locations as her family followed her father's work for the railroad.
She graduated from Lebanon High School and married Edward Gangle, also of Lebanon, on July 12, 1948. Together they had four children. She raised their family in many locations in California and Oregon following Edward's work in the wood products industry from the Redwoods of California to the plywood industry in Albany. They settled in Albany in 1965 and remained there, on a small farm South of Albany, while she raised their family.
Betty sold real estate in Albany and later worked several years for the Parker-Oak Grove Water District in North Albany. She was active in the Sorority of ESA and held offices and worked on many fundraisers for that organization and became great friends with many of her fellow sorority sisters.
She and Ed loved to camp and fish together with his many brothers and sisters and their families. They loved to travel to Quartzsite, Yuma and Tucson, Arizona. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to knit. One of her favorite pastimes was reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edward in 2011; and granddaughter Erin Gangle in 2011.
She is survived by all four children, Jim (Cinda) Gangle of Eugene, David Gangle of Eugene, Kathryn (Bill) St Clair of Sisters and Chris Gangle of Albany; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, six stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was the last remaining member of her family of three sisters and one brother. She was among the few remaining members of the big Gangle family of brothers and sisters-in-law.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home, followed by a luncheon at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 127 Broadalbin St. N.W., Albany.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the SafeHaven Humane Society on Old Highway 34 in Tangent.
Her final resting place will be the Lebanon IOOF Cemetery next to Edward in the Eternal Cross Section, at a later date, with her children attending.
AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling arrangements (aasum-dufour.com).
