Obituary

Beverly May November 3, 1933 - September 14, 2009 Beverly Joan May, 75, of Corvallis was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Monday morning. Born in Mill City, Oregon, to Wallace and Elva Aarnes Skaug, Beverly spent much of her growing up years in Albany. Her family moved around the northwest with stints in Seattle, WA, Phoenix, AZ and Boise, ID, with her completing her senior year in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. After graduation, Beverly married Donald S. May in June 1952. They were married 24 years. Daughter, Dawn Ella was born in 1955. The family lived many years in Moscow, Idaho before returning to Beverly's Oregon roots in 1965, living in Corvallis and Salem.  Bev was an enthusiastic homemaker for her family and loved all things kitchen. She regularly volunteered for the Girl Scouts, the FISH Organization and her church. Bev held brief employments with the Benton County Records & Elections office and Nendel's Inn. Beverly played the violin in orchestra and twirled baton as a HS drum majorette. She enjoyed playing her organ, cooking, roller skating, RV'ing, and driving her Cadillac. Her joy in the later years, included sightseeing and shopping at festival and fair booths with her daughter, Dawn, and cherishing time with her two grandchildren.  She was an avid fan of religious programs on television and rerun sitcom favorites on the TV Land channel.  Beverly had a quick wit along with a warm and friendly smile for all she met. She appreciated the workers and friends at Samaritan Dialysis Services, where she was affectionately known as the "Princess." The family thanks them for 5 ½ years of care. They also appreciate the gentle touch Beverly received her last week at PCU 2C, Good Sam. Survivors include her daughter, Dawn and husband Joe Mavichien, and grandson, Tyler, of Corvallis; granddaughter, Amanda and husband Mark Vrieze of Albany; brother, Gene Skaug of Reno, NV; and best friend, Darlene Simmons of Indio, CA. Arrangements are entrusted to AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. Share stories or comments about her life at www.aasum-dufour.comIn lieu of flowers, those who wish, may contribute to the American Diabetes Association or Santiam Christian Schools Scholarship Endowment, c/o AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home, 805 Ellsworth St. SW, Albany, OR 97321. A Hymn Sing-Home Going celebration will be held at 6 p.m. this Thursday, September 17th, at the Corvallis Senior Citizens Center, 2601 NW Tyler.
