She was preceded in death by her mother May Anna (Hale) Colvin, father, Johnnie Colvin, uncle Lloyd Hale, aunt Dovie Hale, and cousin James Lloyd Hale whom she loved like a brother.Joyce enjoyed reading, music, and celebrating with family and friends. She loved to collect angels and always said that the first one in her collection was her husband Lester. Not only was the collection of her angels impressive, but so were the friendships she has made along the way. She rarely knew a stranger and drew a very thin line between friends and family. Joyce spent 30 years volunteering with Christmas Storybook Land. Among other things, this work included scheduling and accommodating seniors and school tours and she enjoyed it very much.Joyce was born Billie Joyce Colvin in Paintsville, Kentucky and she lived in Thealka, Ky until her mother's death in 1948. Joyce then went to live with her uncle and aunt, Lloyd and Dovie Hale in David, Ky, which she considered her hometown. She sang with the Patsy Teenagers for many years on radio and TV. She graduated from Prestonsburg High School in 1961.Joyce met Lester Bailey of Richwood WV and married him on Feb. 8, 1963 after a three week courtship. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Albany Oregon and became very involved with First Church of God. Together they served the Lord in children's Ministries and always thought of themselves as the missionaries that stayed home. The Baileys eventually founded a sister church to First Church of God, named Oak Hill Community Church, where they were currently pastoring for the last 24 years, as well as Albany Helping Hands Homeless Shelter. Throughout the years with much hard work and dedication, Les and Joyce were able to generate the support of many other churches and organizations for the effort of helping the homeless.Les and Joyce managed Walnut Court, Santiam Terrace & Hill House Apartments in Albany for 30 years. They became surrogate parents to many kids who stayed in touch with them over the years. Joyce will be remembered by several names to include Mrs. B., and B.J, but most importantly, Mom. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren as the world's greatest Baka and Nana.A Memorial service will be held at First Church of God, 1225 15th Ave. SW, Albany, at 1:00 pm, Saturday, may 30th.
