Bounthanh "Booney" Syravong went home to be with our Lord early Sunday morning. He was 80 years young. He was born in Paksé, Laos, to Mr. Kön Mai and Mrs. Sáy Mai; he was the eldest of five children. Booney and Chanh married on April 24, 1962; they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Booney was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed.

In December 1979, Booney and his family arrived in Albany, Oregon, sponsored by Wilmer and Mary Leichty, Calvin and Mary Leichty, Ed Ebbs/Linda Dibble, and Tom Brenneman/LuAnn Gerig of the Bethany Mennonite Church.

He is survived by his wife, Chanh; younger sister, Chansy Savathphoune of Champaign, IL; six children: Charlene Syravong-Dang (Jonathanh); Manivanh Syravong; Kaysone Syravong; Somphone Beasley (William IV); Michael Syravong (Lisa); and Linn Syravong (Melissa); nieces/nephews; and eleven grandchildren: Vincent and Nathan Dang; Jason Allenby and James Watson; William, V, and Sydney Beasley; Reiley and Evan Syravong; Milo, Kian, and Avea Syravong.

Booney was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Kön Mai and Mrs. Sáy Mai; younger brothers, Bounthánh Sylavong and Bounthông Syravong; and youngest sister, Touy Sengsouvanh.

Booney retired from Lemons Millwork in Albany after 25 years as a cabinet maker. He enjoyed carpentry and helping friends and family with home improvement projects. Booney was a long-time member of Bethany Mennonite Church and Albany Mennonite Church. He also enjoyed volunteering for various nonprofit organizations in the Albany area, such as Habitat for Humanity and Paint Your Heart Out. Booney is known for his eggrolls, which he and Chanh contributed to the Mennonite Disaster Service via the annual Albany MCC Festival.

He had also held various positions throughout his life in Southeast Asia, including military service, a supervisor at a sawmill, and a mechanic. Booney also owned and operated a trucking company and a grocery store.
