Brandon Peter Thompson
Aug. 18, 1985 - March 9, 2015
Former Corvallis resident Brandon Peter Thompson passed away on Monday, March 9, in Albany. He was 29 years old.
Brandon was born in Anaheim, California, to Tana Lynn (née Hickman) and Robert Dee Thompson Jr. His early formative years were spent in Pasadena, California, and later in Santa Cruz, California, where he attended Santa Cruz Waldorf School.
When he was a boy, he and his siblings, younger brother Jonathan and older sister Rachael, loved exploring the forests surrounding their home. Brandon exhibited the creative spirit that defined his life in the games he would make up with his siblings and neighborhood children and the forts he would create in the woods.
Brandon and his family moved to Corvallis in 1998, when he was 12, and attended Highland View Middle School. He continued to demonstrate a creative spirit and a keen aptitude for the arts. He took several art classes at Corvallis High School, from which he graduated in 2004. After high school, Brandon spent time in Corvallis, Chicago and Alaska, working in various jobs in coffee shops, delis and even a fishery.
Brandon's great passion, however, always was for the arts. Although his most prolific work might have been his striking sketches and graffiti-style designs, typically done in his preferred mediums of charcoal and pencil, he also wrote poetry and was extremely immersed in music. He occasionally participated in open-mic nights, performing both poetry and hip-hop.
Brandon was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Antoinette "Toni" M. Hickman and Tully Denham Hickman; and a maternal uncle.
Brandon is survived by his parents; siblings; paternal grandparents, Muriel (née Blanks) and Robert D. Thompson Sr.; aunts and uncles; and many other loving relatives who will greatly miss him.
We will all remember Brandon's beautiful, creative spirit and kind heart. His artwork, his memory and his spirit will live on.
A public viewing and reception will take place at 1:30 p.m. today, Thursday, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.
