Carl Justus SandquistDec. 9, 1925 - Nov. 24, 2009Carl Justus Sandquist, 83 of Albany passed away Tuesday at Samaritan Albany General Hospital with family present.He was born in Bertrand, Nebraska to Justus and Eva Sandquist.  Carl married Jean Prasch on Feb. 21, 1949 in Lexington, Neb., they had 60 years together.They moved to Albany from Lexington in 1957.  His brothers, sisters and parents followed them to Albany years later.  He was the family patriot.   He had three children Linda Cox, Larry Sandquist, and Nancy Taylor.Carl was a carpenter, builder and did remodeling of homes.  He also had Sandquist Building Supply in Albany for many years. Carl loved camping with family and traveling in the fifth wheel.  He bought a mobile home in Cathedral City, Calif., and spent many winters there enjoying the weather and friends.Carl enjoyed visiting with friends and talking with his brothers about old times.He is survived by wife Jean of Albany; daughter Linda Cox of Albany; son Larry Sandquist of Brookings; brothers Wayne and wife Betty of Albany, and Carrol and wife Sally of Yuma, Ariz.; sisters Elvira and husband Ken Hall of Oregon City and Orvetta Milgrove of Vancouver, Wash.; ten grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by daughter Nancy on Jan. 14, 1998.Carl was a gentle man and loved life and will be greatly missed. A rosary service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling the arrangements ( www.aasum-dufour.com ).
