Catherine Mary (Schone) ShineDecember 8, 1924 - January 8, 2009Catherine Mary "Katie" Shine, 84, of Albany, passed away peacefully Thursday with the husband she loved for 63 years by her side at the Mennonite Village Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Carl J. and Rose (Linneman) Schone, and was one of six children. Katie received her nursing degree from St. Joseph's Catholic School of Nursing and served in the Navy as a Cadet Nurse in Portsmouth, Va., where she met her future husband.She married Robert J. "Bob" Shine on Dec. 1, 1945. Shortly after, they moved to Corvallis, where Katie and Bob had six children. Katie was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany and Corvallis, and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in La Pine, where they retired. Katie's faith was lived out through her actions, pouring time and attention into tenderly caring for her children and faithfully supporting her husband. Bob and Katie were married for 63 years. Katie enjoyed reading, loved to travel, and was an avid card player who was hard to beat. In addition, she was a skilled cook, baker and canner. She will be deeply missed, but she will not be forgotten. Memories of her selfless service and blessing to others will continue to live on and inspire those whom she touched.Katie is survived by her husband Bob of Albany; son Kevin of Albany; son Tim of Pittsburgh, Pa.; daughter Kathleen Malin of Scio; daughter Tracy MacKenzie of Corvallis; son Brendan of Seattle, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grand children.A recitation of the rosary will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home in Albany. A funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany.
