Chad Eric EngelAug. 25, 1978 - April 12, 2009Chad Eric Engel, 30, a beloved son, brother, nephew and friend, died Sunday. He was born in Albany. He attended St. Mary's Grade School, Memorial Middle School and West Albany High School, where he lettered in sports.Chad was employed by Mid-West Medical Contracting where he installed MRI equipment throughout the Pacific Northwest.Chad loved fishing, hiking, his two rabbits and everything that had to do with the great outdoors. He followed his passion and became a pilot and subsequently a flight instructor at Lane Community College.Chad is survived by his mother, Ruth Ann Engel; father James R. Engel; siblings Lisa, Doug, Ryan and Trisa; two nieces, Keera and Elly Engel, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. As generous in death as in life, Chad had chosen to be an organ donor. The Engel family is comforted to know that Chad's heart and a kidney were received by a person living in Oregon. Other unknown donor recipients will have the second chance to participate fully in life. Chad's zest for life continues to live on in all our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you may make a contribution to your favorite charity in honor of the life of our much loved and missed son and brother, Chad Engel.A recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A Mass of celebration for Chad's life will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany across from the funeral home. A reception will immediately follow the funeral Mass. Chad's ashes will be spread in the areas he enjoyed by family members in a private ceremony on another date.
