Charlene Loraine (Sawin) PoeAugust 22, 1917 - November 11, 2009Charlene Loraine (Sawin) Poe was born in Carrol County Missouri to Rose Heiney and Charles Sawin. Rose had three girls by her first husband when she was widowed. Their names were Therma, Leah, and Nellie. Rose married Charles and they had three more girls, Edith, Ruth and Charlene.The family moved from Missouri to Colorado when Charlene was 7 or 8 years old and she finished her education in Holyoke, Colorado. Charlene met Chester Poe in Holyoke, Colo. and they were married on January 13, 1934.Four children were born to this union, Shirley Kruse, Charlotte Fisbeck, Benny and Gerry Poe.The family lived on a farm in Northeast Colorado near Holyoke for 20 years and because of hail and drought they had a farm sale and moved to Corvallis, Oregon.Charlene worked for Citizens Bank of Corvallis for seventeen years.After retirement Chet and Charlene moved to Albany in 1980 where all their children lived.Charlene joined South Albany Community Church in 1981. She was active in church when her health permitted.Writing her life story has always been her goal. She took classes through LBCC at Sr. Citizens for six years and in 1987 she put it all together and had it published. The title is "Reaching Back". Her other interests were music, poetry, oil painting, and crocheting.Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, and husband Chester.She is survived by daughters Shirley Kruse and Charlotte Fisbeck; sons Benny Poe and Garry Poe; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren. She leaves behind may friends and many, many loved ones.Memorial Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21 at South Albany Community Church.
