Charles "Chuck" Alfred Maillard Jr.Nov. 22, 1932 - Sept. 12, 2009Charles "Chuck" Alfred Maillard Jr., 76,passed away Saturday. He was born in Corvallis to Charles Alfred Sr. and Hazel M. (Phillips) Maillard. He was raised on Wood Creek Road near Philomath and graduated from Philomath High School in 1951.Chuck joined the United States Navy and served from 1952-1953. He was awarded the "National Defense Metal". He was also a member of the American Legion Snatiam Post 51 for 29 years.On April 3, 1960, Charles married Marlene Adell Mortensen from Hubbard. They had a long wonderful marriage for over 49 years. Their love for horses is what brought the two of them together. Chuck was a very active member of two horse organizations throughout his life. Chuck joined the Linn County Deputy Sheriff Mounted Posse in 1966. He served as president of the club in 1993. He joined the Western Horseman Oregon Horse Association in the late 1950's and served as president in 1969. Chuck was also one of the original Charter Members of the Philomath Buckaroos.Chuck worked for over 30 years (1960 - 1997] at Teledyne Wah Chang in Albany.Charles is survived by his wife, Marlene Maillard; daughters Debbie Davis-Hanes of Alaska, Kellie Davis & husband Ron Dahl of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kimberly Kennicott and husband Edward Kennicott of LaGrande; and Terri Green of Salem; six grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.A viewing will be from 4 to7 p.m. Thursday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.
