Charles Meredith PowellApril 14, 1927 - June 18, 2007Charles Meredith "Charlie" Powell of Albany died at his home on June 18, 2007.Charles was born in Corning, Arkansas, the son of Lewis M. Powell Sr. and Mattie Mae (Dickerson) Powell. Charles joined the Marine Corp and served in the Pacific during WWII. He married Mary M. Teviotdale on February 20, 1947 at Putuxent River Naval Air Station, Maryland. They settled in Albany in 1952. Mary died October 24, 1981. Charles married Susan Abbas on November 4, 1985 in Albany.Charles worked as a jitney driver for Albany Ice and Cold storage and its successors, retiring from National Frozen Foods in 1989. He had been a member of the Eagles, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marine Corp League. He liked to fish and was frequently at Detroit Lake during the early years of his retirement.Wife Susan survives him, as do his children Charles, Richard and Mary Kay of Albany and Margaret of Lebanon and stepchildren Rick, Dave, Leon, Deema and Dirk. There are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His parents and his brother, Lewis M.
