Claude CoslerJuly 31, 1919 - March 19, 2008Claude Cosler, 88, of Albany passed away Wednesday at his home. He was born in Canton, Ill., to Gilbert & Ina (Williams) Cosler.Claude came to Oregon after graduating from high school in Illinois. In January of 1942, he enlisted in the Army and served during World War II. He fulfilled his military training at Fort Stevens Wash.; Camp Hood, Texas; Fort Canby; Breckenrigde, KY.; and Fort Sill. Okla. He joined the 249th Field Artillery and served as a staff sergeant in Italy. He was discharged on Dec. 17, 1945, at Fort Lewis, Wash. On June 14, 1942, he married Velma Mae Vitek in Hoquiam, Wash. Claude and Velma made their home in Albany. He worked as a salesman for Williams Bakery for over 30 years.Claude is survived by wife of 66 years, Velma Cosler; son Bill Cosler and wife Larue of Cottage Grove; daughters Sandy Ashby and husband Jerry of Federal Way, Wash., and Cindy Sullivan and husband Tony of Albany; brother Kenneth Cosler of Albany; sister Wilma Johnston of Portland; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death his parents, Ina & Gilbert Cosler; brothers Keith Cosler and Bob Cosler; and sister Vivian Schliep.Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at Willamette Memorial Park .Memorial contributions can be made to American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
