Dale L. HowellOctober 13, 1927 - January 26, 2009 Dale "Red" Howell went to be with the Lord Monday with his family at his bedside.Dale was born in Jumbo, Okla.  He moved to Oregon with his family in June, 1947.  He married Emma Turcott fifty-eight years ago. Dale was an avid hunter and fisherman, who shared his passion with family and friends.  He coached Little League and was a 4-H livestock leader.  He served his community on the Denny school board for many years.  Dale loved to sing and shared his gift along with his wife Emma for many years, and served as a church board member and a greeter for his beloved Church of God 7th Day in Harrisburg.In his early years, Dale worked many types of jobs; he logged in the woods with his father and a mule team when he was 11.  Some of his other jobs included the shipyards during World War II in Oakland, Calif., and his work as a farm labor across the country.  Later in life he was employed by US Champion Plywood Mill in Lebanon for 29 years as a globe saw specialist on the T1-11 siding line.   Upon retiring Dale went full time into his lifelong passion of cattle ranching. Dale is survived by his wife of 58 years Emma; daughter Debbie Leckie and husband John; sons Gary and wife Lynn, Richard and wife Kathleen, and Jeff and wife Dianna; grandchildren JD Leckie, Ryan Howell, Clinton Howell, Jolene Greer, Patricia Howell, Jessie Wolfinbarger, Vanessa Thomas, Amber Howell and Brandon Howell; great-grandchildren Lyn, Christina, Courtney, Luke, Michael, Rebecca and Weston; brother Bob Howell; and sisters May Gibson and Faye Grissom.Dale is preceded in death by his father, Walter C. Howell; mother Ona E. (Rush) Howell; sister Floy Emery; brothers Clarence, Paul , James and Elmer; and beloved granddaughter Tracey Michelle Howell.A visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.A memorial service to celibrate his life will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Church of God 7th Day on Diamond Hill Road in Harrisburg.AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
