Darrel Thomas Dixon, 84, died in his home on Nov. 27 from cancer.
He was born in Bremerton, Wash., to Thomas and Frieda Dixon. Because his dad was in the Navy, Darrel's early years were spent in different places including Ft. Stevens and Washington, D.C. His teen years were spent in Crescent City, Calif., where he graduated from high school and spent many days fishing on the Smith River.
He married at a young age to Dorothy Hall and four children were born to them: Richard, Thomas, Allen and Beverly. That marriage ended and Darrel remained single for nine years before he married Vera Kimble. They had three daughters: Diana, Linda and Lori, and Vera's three sons Charles, Ken and Brian, from her previous marriage.
Vera died November 1996 and Darrel remained single until Aug. 14, 1997 when he married Dorothy Walter who had four children Timothy, Lisa, Brian and Laurie. So this gave Darrel a total of 14 children, seven biological and seven step-children. What a wonderful house full we had when we were all together.
He loved his family unconditionally and always thanked God for them. Needless to say, there are numerous grandchildren. Darrel is also survived by sisters, Janice Wyatt of Crescent City, Calif., and Joyce Dixon of Vancouver, Wash. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Church of God Seventh Day in Harrisburg.
