David was born in Oregon City to Merle and Lovern Ione Ferren. He graduated from Clackamas High School in 1958. He served as a med tech in the Air Force from 1958 to 1962. He graduated from Marylhurst College with a bachelor's degree in 1988 and a master's in 1990.
His hobbies were building beautiful furniture, gardening and cooking. When diabetes hindered his mobility, he donated all his woodworking tools to GAPS.
He was a member of Grant Avenue Baptist Church in Corvallis. He is survived by wife Betty Burge Ferren and grandson Nathanial David Walker. Daughter Deanna preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Grant Avenue Baptist Church, 1621 N.W. Grant Ave., Corvallis.
