David P. White

David P. White, 91 of Albany passed away on Nov. 14, 2013 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. He was sung into heaven by his wife Dani, daughters and sister.
David was born in Minot, North Dakota to Leslie and Helen (Brown) White. He was involved with Boy Scouts during his younger years, serving as the bugler at camp and then later a camp Counselor. He earned his Eagle Scout award, and served as a leader in Albany during the 40's and 50's.
On Oct. 31, 1944 he married Pearl Hagen. In 1942 David graduated from Minot Teacher's College during his time there he and Pearl had the leads in operettas and musicals, and were active in the Albany Choristers. In August of 1942 he enlisted in the US Army serving as a medic and playing trumpet in the Army band. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Pearl passed away in 1988.
In 1989 David married long time friend and fellow singer Dannette (Dani) Chandler (Coffey) in Reno with family and friends present. They would have been married for 25 years in March.
Dave owned and operated White Insurance in Albany and retired in the early 90's. After retirement he helped Dani with her Avon business being known to many as Mr. Avon.
Always musical, Dave directed numerous chorus's and church choirs locally. He discovered a new love of music while directing Barbershop for Men Spebsqsa and Sweet Adeline's for the ladies. He also sang in many quartets and belonged to the organization singing with the Senataires Chorus in Salem.
David was a member of Jaycees, American Legion and Elks. He and Pearl belonged to a pinochle and bridge club. He was active .in Albany Little Theater, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he and Dani cantered for the Saturday , 5 p.m. Mass for years.
He is survived by his loving wife Dani; children Sherry Zukor of San Jose Calif, Cathy Pennington of Coos Bay, Cindy Garner (Steve) of West Linn; Rascal his dog and constant companion; step children Sharri Dowling and Lorri Thornton of Salem, Terry Coffey of Albany, Kenny Coffey (Andrea) of Albany and Kippi Coffey of Beaverton; grandchildren Michelle Zhang (Xiaoke), Angie Appel (Libby), Ashley Cahill (Patrick), Mallory Pennington, Prescott Garner, Madison Clark (Michael); step grandchildren Judy Boge (Dennis), Becky Coffey (Ryan), Jessica Dowling, Steven Dowling (Sharon); five great grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren whom affectionately referred to him as "Bumpa"; sisters Jeanne Urban of Montana and Joyce Mueller of Port Orford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Peal Hagen White; and sisters Betty Phillips and Margaret Welliver.

Funeral Liturgy will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany. Reception will follow at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. In honor of David's favorite color please join Dani by wearing something red.
