Debra Lynn DowneyNov. 30, 1960 - June 3, 2009Debra Lynn (Newman) Downey, 48 of Albany died unexpectedly Wednesday at her home.She was born in Corvallis and lived most of her life in the Albany area.  Debbie graduated from West Albany High School in 1979. Debbie enjoyed traveling during her time as a travel agent.  She also worked as an insurance adjuster and held various secretarial positions before receiving her associate degree in Business from Linn-Benton Community College.She married Thomas Downey in 1981.  Three children were born from that union.  Dustin, Nicole, and Nathan Downey all of Albany.Debbie enjoyed cooking learning much of her culinary skills from her mother, Gladys. She loved to read and will always be remembered for carrying a paperback book with her wherever she went.  Her greatest love, however, was her grandchildren who lovingly called her Nana.  They brought her much happiness.Debbie is survived by her husband Tom; children Dustin (fiancé Laura Butler), Nicole, and Nathan; grandchildren Samara, Damon, Bryce, Dakota, Aidan,  Raymond and Nathan's son due later this summer; brothers Mike (Roberta) and Shay Newman of Albany, Earl (Bonnie) Newman of Reno, Nevada and Joe Jr.(Jeannie) Newman of Ramsey, Minnesota; sisters Linda Newman of Salem, Oregon and Darlene (Art) Hawley of Woodburn, Oregon;  special aunt Lila George of Bend, Oregon;  brother-in law Bruce Downey and sister-in-law JuJu West of Lincoln City, Oregon; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Debbie was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Gladys Newman and her in-laws Thomas and Judy Downey.Visitation will be from 1-3 pm this Saturday, June 6th at Aasum-Dufour Funeral Home.A memorial service will be held at 6 pm this Saturday, June 6th at the Riverside Baptist Church on Springhill Drive in Albany.  Aasum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling arrangements ( www.aasum-dufour.com ).
