Obituary

Delmar "Del" Pounds, 87, passed away quietly Friday at the Timberview Care Center in Albany.

Delmar was born to Clarence and Rebecca Pounds in Ostrander, Ohio, and graduated from high school in that small rural community. He served in the US Army Signal Corps in Guadalcanal and Bougainville during World War II, and was awarded two bronze stars. After the war ended, he married Lydia (Fox) Weaver on April 16, 1946, and they settled in Delaware, Ohio, where Delmar owned a TV repair business for many years. They had two children, Robert Lee and Joyce Ellen.

In the early '60s, Del was offered a position with a major aerospace corporation and moved the family to Moses Lake, Wash. A short time later, he was offered a management position with TRW Corporation in Long Beach, Calif., where he worked for 32 years before retiring. After retirement, Del and Lydia moved to Hemet, Calif., where they lived for several years before finally moving to Albany to be near their daughter and granddaughter.

Del and Lydia spent over 15 years traveling with the TRW RV club, seeing many sights across the United States. Del was a commander in Amvets.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Dorrence of Delaware, Ohio.

He leaves his wife, Lydia of Albany; son Robert of Gualala, Calif.; daughter Joyce of Independence; sisters Florence Draper of Norwalk, Ohio, and Gladys of Delaware, Ohio; granddaughter Michelle Hope; and great-granddaughter Amber Hope of Salem.

There will be a celebration of his life at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at the Timberview Care Center. Del would have been 88 years old on that day.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Evergreen Hospice, 1010 11th Ave. S.W., Albany, OR 97321-2019.
