Obituary

DeRoy McGillOctober 30, 1917 - September 30, 2008DeRoy McGill, 90 of Turner passed away Tuesday at Avamere Court in Keizer.He was born in Pierce, Okla., on October 30, 1917 the son of Joel and Eva (Smith) McGill.  DeRoy's family came to Junction City in 1924 and he attended schools there.  He married Mattie Lou Pilcher on June 11, 1942 in Jefferson and they resided in Turner on a farm that the family still runs today.  DeRoy was a member of the Church of God Seventh Day in Marion and was a community leader and chairman of the school board for Marion Grade School and Cascade High School.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, and farming.He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mattie Lou McGill of Turner; son Will E. McGill of Turner; daughter Debora McGill-Knaup of Keizer; twin brother Leroy McGill of Turner; brother Theo McGill of Junction City;  four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.A visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Jefferson Pioneer Cemetery and a dinner will follow at 5 p.m. at the Marion Church of God Seventh Day, 7478 Stayton Rd., and a celebration of life will follow at 7 p.m., also at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.  AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling arrangements.  ( www.aasum-dufour.com )
