Dollie Mable Martinak, 89, passed away after a brief illness following a stroke.
She was born in Scio, the middle child of William and Fannie Dobrkovsky. She was raised on the family farm south of Scio. She attended elementary school in Scio and high school in Albany. She met her future husband, Amos Martinak, while attending the Albany school.
Dollie and Amos were married in November of 1941. Amos preceded Dollie in death in February of 2009 after 67 years of marriage.
Dollie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in San Diego. After the war, Dollie and Amos lived a short time in Seattle, Wash., where the first of their sons was born. The couple moved back to Scio and lived on a small farm while raising their family.
Dollie worked outside of the home for a few years as a cook in the Scio School District. Dollie was a devoted wife and mother to Amos and her three sons. She loved baking, raising flowers and gardening. Her baked goods always included frosting and she made "orange delight" for the family 4th of July picnic from a still secret recipe.
She loved camping and being in the outdoors with her family. After Amos retired, they spent many years traveling to Arizona where they led hiking groups in the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix.
Besides her husband, Dollie was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She is survived by her sons, Paul and wife Kathy of Albany, Bill and wife Jennifer of Stayton, and Jim and wife Judy of Salem. She will be missed by seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home, 805 Ellsworth St. S.W., Albany.
Donations may be made in her memory to Evergreen Hospice.
