Donald Clyde HopkinsJan. 13, 1920 - Nov. 12, 2009Donald C. Hopkins, 89, of Albany passed away Thursday at his home.He was born in Jefferson, S.D., the son of George M. and Lydia (Dessaint) Hopkins. When Donald was 8, the family loaded up into two model Ts and came out to Oregon a trip that took almost a year. The settled in Molalla.Donald married Arlene Evans in 1947, and they came to Albany in 1957. She preceded him in death. Donald married LaVerne Frossard in June 1965 in Reno, Nev. She preceded him in death in 2002. Donald worked in logging on the Oregon coast for a number of years before working in a sawmill in Corvallis. He retired in 1982 from REM Metals as a parts finisher. Donald served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and gardening.He is survived by stepsons Dan Evans of Rustin, La., Donald McMann of Idaho and David McMann of Salem; step-daughter Nancy Gilkey of Coos Bay; brother Melvin D. Hopkins of Molalla; sister Verna Skinner of Oregon City; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Emery, Charles, Harold, and Walter; and four sisters, Almeta Pettite, Myrtle Green, Helen Day, and Carol Brinkman.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Willamette Memorial Park in the Mausoleum Chapel with military honors by the U.S. Army and the American Legion Post 10 and 51.
