Donald "Don" Jack SargeantMarch 13, 1915 - August 10, 2008Donald "Don" Jack Sargeant, 93, of Albany was called home Sunday at Dameron Hospital in Stockton, Calif.He was born in Montesano, Wash., the son of Nathan Edward and Ida Mae (Glaser) Sargeant. During his childhood years, his mother Ida instilled in him a strong faith in God that remained with him throughout his life. Don and his siblings began work early. Don began logging while still in high school and spent over twenty years in the logging industry, much of it spent as a high climber and tree topper. Don married Wretha Laura Bailey on October 8, 1934 in Hoquim, Wash.; they moved to the Lebanon area and began rye grass farming in the 1950s. The farm on Rock Hill Road was where they raised their six children.Don and Wretha were founding members of the Albany United Pentecostal Church. Wretha passed away in 1965. In 1966 Don married Ilene Grover and she along with her four daughters came to live on the farm. In 1970 Don and Ilene became proud parents of twin sons. The family moved to Tangent in 1980 and lived there until Ilene's health began to fail in 2007 at which time they moved into town. Don enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys.Don is survived by children Nancy Lee Baker, Douglas Jack Sargeant, Dale Henry Sargeant, Larry Jay Sargeant, Arvene Wretha Swarringim, Deniece Hazel McCune, Nathan Irving Sargeant, and Daniel Esper Sargeant; stepchildren Louisa May Jaquith, Edna Marie Loudermilk, Anita Joy Sargeant, and Valda Lynn Johnson; 35 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother Richard Sargeant of Kansas City; and sister Emily Camtora of Lebanon.He was preceded in death by Wretha Sargeant; Ilene Sargeant; and brothers Cecil and Harold Sargeant.Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Apostolic Life Center, 230 S. Pine in Albany with a committal following at Lebanon IOOF Cemetery.
