Obituary

Donald P. Reiling of Albany passed away peacefully Wednesday in his home surrounded by family and friends. Don was born in Silverton, Oregon. When he was 10 years of age the family moved to Gervais where he graduated from high school having lettered in all four sports. He then attended OSU in Corvallis and received his Bachelor's degree in 1959. He continued his education at Willamette University in Salem and received his law degree in 1962. Don was a sole practitioner in Albany for some 49 years. In addition to his practice, he was the Municipal Court Judge for the City of Albany for 20 years.

Over the years, Don was a member of the Albany Elks, Eagles, Albany JC's, Kiwanis, Oregon State Alumni Club, and Spring Hill Country Club. He served as President of the Timber Carnival and Spring Hill Country Club. He also served as Chairman of the Client's Security Fund through the Oregon State Bar.

Don and Linda were married on June 8, 1984, in Corvallis, Oregon. He is survived by his wife Linda; daughter Alice Calamar her husband Gary and granddaughter Zoe, of West Hollywood, CA; son Thomas Reiling and wife Erica, of Beaverton, OR; son Michael Reiling his wife Leanna and grandson Derek, of Portland, OR; step-daughter Darla O'Sullivan her partner Dan White and grandson Joshua, of Albany, OR; step-son, Daniel Dowell his wife Erin and grandchildren Brandon and Madison, of Albany, OR; sister, Carol May and her partner Patrick Howard of Portland, OR; sister Linda Cole and her husband Lou; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was predeceased in death by his parents, Paul and Irmentrude (Irmy) Reiling, brother, David, and grandson, Jeremiah.

He loved gardening and was a farmer at heart, with a definite green thumb. Between he and Linda their yard, garden, and flowers were always a showcase to behold. He loved his work; tried to never miss a Saturday market; and was a sports fanatic. He always said his mind was full of trivia, which it was. Don never ceased to amaze his coffee break buddies with his recall ability. Family and friends were always amazed by his capacity to remember things the rest of us had long forgotten. He loved to golf with friends and family. Don was an extremely loyal person, full of compassion for others, had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved to tell jokes and stories. His grandchildren brought him great joy. He was dearly loved by all, and will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and the community.

Don and Linda were fortunate to be able to enjoy traveling during their marriage including trips to Hong Kong, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, Fiji and Australia; cruises in the Caribbean, Alaska, and Europe beginning in Portugal and ending in Barcelona. They especially enjoyed their tour of the Vatican in Rome during that trip. The trip of what Don and Linda referred to as their trip of a lifetime was two years ago on a river cruise starting in Amsterdam, cruising along the Rhine, Main & Upper Danube, and ending in Budapest with an extended ten day land trip to Austria, Switzerland, and Paris.

Services will be held at St. Mary's Parish in Albany on Tuesday, October 11th, at 12:00 noon. Memorial contributions can be made to either Samaritan Evergreen Hospice or Benton Hospice Service, in care of Aasum-Dufor Funeral Home, 805 Ellsworth Street, Albany, OR 97321.
